CANOE at the launch of the FAMTASTIC project

5 février 2026

On January 28, 2026, CANOE was pleased to participate in the kick-off of the FAMTASTIC project (Additive Fabrication of Impedance Gradient Absorbing Metamaterials) at the University of Western Brittany. FAMTASTIC was a winner of the ASTRID MATURATION 2025 call for projects supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR).

💡 FAMTASTIC is an ambitious €1.5 million project, funded to the tune of €730,000, bringing together a consortium of leading experts around strategic challenges in microwaves and additive manufacturing:

🔧 CANOE’s role in FAMTASTIC

As a development and technology transfer center dedicated to composites and polymers, CANOE will contribute its expertise in:

🧪 3D printing of filled polymer formulations (magnetic/dielectric) adapted to additive manufacturing,

⚙️ Parameterizing material and geometry gradients, via a multi-material printhead, to optimize absorption performance,

♻️ Evaluating the valorization of 3D printing waste, with the development of new filaments with specific properties Optimized.

🎯 Project Objective

To co-design, with academic and industrial partners, new impedance-gradient microwave-absorbing metamaterials compatible with additive manufacturing and integrable in highly constrained environments (aeronautics, defense, space, etc.).

🙏 A huge thank you to all the partners for the enriching discussions during this launch, and especially to Vincent Laur for coordinating the project and this kick-off meeting.

Our engineer, Robin Larue, is eager to put his skills in composites and additive manufacturing to work on this scientific and human adventure!
